WARNING Facebook users... It's back.
Koobface malware makes a come back on Facebook again. If you noticed and seen me post a status update about a bad looking IP type of URL link that a few of us received in our Facebook email 3days ago. Well this is what it was about. I posted a sample link there on Facebook like i am here below. Mainly for everybody to see and know the differences of the type of URL links visually. The actual bad one was sent out to a few of my friends including myself. It was even sent from a friend of ours. Even though he did not know it or do it himself. It just come from his account. Not really him himself.
Well everybody that fell for it and clicked on the link ended up getting the virus. It is being circulated through email mainly now as in real email. But also mostly as been seen through Facebook email now. It is coming as a video from a friend saying: "
You were sighted on our stealthy camera!" ALSO it has been know to show up titled something to this effect:
Watch this video we found of all of us from awhile back. -Or- Watch this Video of us messing around goofing off or doing this funny Xrated crap or all of us breaking the law type of video. Supposedly meaning like causing trouble in a funny / cool type of way or something. If you see any of those titles or types plus any other that doesn't look exactly right to you.
Beware and
do not click on any link or attachment that is included no matter what. The link once clicked is suppose to show a video but then asks you to install a video codec to view the video properly that you do not have the correct updated stuff to view the video but instead it tricks it into delivering the malware. Once it's on your machine you are infected immediately. It then triggers the malicious coding to send to everybody on your contact lists.
The bad links are coming in a few different forms but one mainly like an IP address type of link which looks like this as an
example: - http:// xh3.8756.986 - Something close to that. You all get the point i hope. etc etc....
A regular URL link of course looks like so:
http://website.com/spacepic.jpg
_OR_ www.website.com/spacevideo.html
SO beware and pay attention to what you click on. All links and URL's
can be dangerous of course but most URL's you really don't have to worry to much about for the most part. But if you see an IP style link these days then you need to take a second thought and look at it before you decide to click it. Maybe do some checking on that exact link. Even by just typing it into Google and see what Google posts up and says about it first. Even sites and their security threat centers is a good place to start checking like
Norton | Security Response or
McAfee Threat Center.
Some people are saying.. well.. "
I will never click on a link again on Facebook or these type sites." That really isn't a good way to look at it nor does it help the case plus then these a** holes creating these things win so to speak. Just becareful and pay attention and you should be Ok for the most part.
It's pretty simple. If it doesn't look right or seem right by just the way it is being sent from that friend. Then don't click on it. Just like a way you know they normally would not be sending you something. Then yeah don't click it. Nothing is worth that just to see some funny picture or funny video. lol. Just use common sense and you should be fine. You see a lot of the IP type URL links are bad links a lot of times just because of the system they are linked to and the link host and what the thing points to. The file it is trying to send back to you from the server and a few other reasons. There is a big difference in the two different types once you look deep into it but i will not go into depth on that one right now. I might later in a different post but don't want to get this post directed in another path. I want to stay on topic and not get it confusing for anybody. Well i hope this saved some of you and you got to read before hand or before it was to late.
To help avoid this do as mentioned above. Then also of course have a great Virus, malware and spyware program installed and updated at all times. Best bet it to have a program system with all of those included in one package. Norton 2010 security suit is a great choose. It's much better then there old versions. RATED #1 FOR 09 & 2010. By following the advise above, that normally will help catch it before it's to late. So be sure to do so.
Here is some other update news post on the situation as well. To bad it didn't get posted a few days ago. It could of warned & save a few people i know. Plus i would have had something wrote up and posted on it with a warning sent out to everybody. Oohh well. At least we got it now and hopefully can help as many of you out there as possible. GoodLuck.
